Beer Updates 11-8-17

How is it November already?!  I don’t know about you, but time has flown by this year for me.  There have been mountains of new great beers this year, and this past week of deliveries has kept up with that trend!  Here’s some highlights.

Shelton Brothers paid all 3 stores a visit yesterday.  Among their products, we have two new Prairie Artisan Ales packages.   No Chill is a brand new beer in 4pk 12oz cans.  Coming in at 5.1% ABV, this milk stout is aged on Mexican coffee sourced from fellow Oklahoma friends (and coffee roasters) Spaceship Earth.   Prairie has sourced Spaceship Earth coffee before, notably in the newest version of their classic stout Bomb!  Also, didn’t a wise man (*cough* Dan Simmons *cough*) say something about a coffee beer a day?….  DO IT FOR DAN THE BEER MAN!

Also joining Prairie’s 4pk can lineup is Phantasmagoria.  We’ve seen this Double IPA in bottles before – but come on…CANS!   With light contamination eliminated, and a more reliable seal from Oxygen, there couldn’t be a better vessel for preservation of such a fragile beer style. We’ve also restocked on Vape Tricks, their 4pk sour brewed with cherries. First round went quick!

Two new Jolly Pumpkin beers rolled in from Shelton’s van as well. Turbo Bam joins the ever growing lineup of saisons named for the brewery’s dog and mascot.   Jolly Pumpkin teamed up with Seattle’s The Masonry for this beer, aiming for it to be the perfect pairing to a big ol’ slice of pizza.  NOW we’re talking!   Additional Rye malt gives the beer a spicer backbone than it’s flagship version. Complementing the spicier profile, Amarillo hops and lemon peel add notes of citrus and stone fruit.   JP’s new sour saison, Saison M, is also now on shelves.  The ‘M’ pays homage to their home state of Michigan. The ingredients are sourced in-state as well.   Hops are and grains are grown on nearby farms.  An open fermentation allows the local airborne microflora to inoculate the beer, allowing for Michigan terroir.

Suggested Music Pairing:  ‘Michigan’ by Sufjan Stevens, ‘Deadmalls & Nightfalls’ by Frontier Ruckus

North KC Beverage brought us a new brew from Bell’s Brewing.  Arabicadabra is a 5.5% ABV coffee milk stout in 6pk bottles.   Locally roasted Nicaraguan and Sumatra coffee beans are used to craft a cold coffee concentrate for inclusion in the beer.  Lactose is also used to make for a creamier mouthfeel.  Give it a shot!  In case you missed it, other limited release Bell’s seasonals Third Coast Old Ale and Cherry Stout are back on the shelves as well!

Fresh off the Major Brands truck, North Coast Brewing Company has continued their recent line of 22oz Berliner Weisse bombers with Cranberry-Quince.  The other fruited berliners from this line have been popular, and i’ve enjoyed them thoroughly.  Grab one at any of the 3 Mike’s locations.   Brewery description:

“The third offering in our spontaneously soured seasonal Berliner Weisse series, North Coast Brewing Cranberry-Quince Berliner Weisse is made with the juice of Oregon cranberries and the pear-like quince—the perfect accompaniment for all your autumn celebrations!”

There are plenty of other new items, and more (and more, and more….) will keep rolling in as colder weather gets into full gear.  I’ll keep you posted here, and I hope you’re able to try a few!  Our hours will remain the same throughout the holiday season (yes even Thanksgiving and Christmas) so come and see us! We would love to help you find a couple tasty new brews!

Cheers!
