Jeremy’s Beer Update May 2017

By Jeremy, Mike’s Beer Manager

Hello fellow beer fiends! It’s been another great week of deliveries here at Mike’s!

Up first, we received FOUR new beers from Urban Family Brewing. This Seattle brewery has been seeing more and more presence in Kansas City over the past year, and for tasty reasons! “Mangifera” is a sour/wild ale with mangos and citra hops. “Sour Bog” is a sour/wild with cranberries. “The Madam” is an imperial dry-hopped sour/wild. Last, “Blind Tyger” is a saison/farmhouse ale brewed with juniper! Quantities are extremely limited, so come grab a bottle!  All released in 500ml bottles.

From Evil Twin (a Mike’s favorite as far as breweries go) we saw the limited release of “A is for Apricot.” This gose-style ale is brewed with sea salt and apricot. IT’S ALSO REALLY FREAKIN’ GOOD. We’ve got less than a case left at each store, so get down on this quick! Available in 4-pk 12 oz cans and single 12 oz cans!

A trifecta of awesome bombers from Avery just dropped. “Vanilla Bean Stout” went quick last time around.   “Raspberry Sour” and “Apricot Sour” both dropped as well. If I do say so myself – those are two of my favorite fruits in sours, and these beers don’t disappoint! Limited quantities of 22 oz bottles at all 3 stores.

From hometown monsters at Boulevard, we saw the release of “Hibiscus Gose” in 6 pack bottles. And of course the yearly favorite – SAISON BRETT! Saison Brett is available in very limited quantities in 750 ml bottles. Their popular year-round “KC Pils” is now out in seasonal Royals themed packaging as well, and seasonal witbier

“Zon” is also now in stock.
We’ve re-upped across the board on Dogfish Head beers, and now have “Burton’s Baton.” This oak-aged imperial IPA is one of my personal favorites from their lineup. And did you miss out on 120 Minute IPA? We still have singles and 4-pks available at all 3 stores.

Last but not least, have you tried Jolly Pumpkin‘s recent collaboration with Holy Mountain Brewing?   Shelton Brothers dropped this wonderful beverage a couple weeks ago, and if you haven’t tried it yet, what are you waiting for?   The beer pours a hazy yellow/orange color with a thick off-white head. The retention and lacing is strong, and the nose presents a dry lemony tartness, with a punch of funk. The beer is mildly sour with flavors of barnyard funk, lemon rind, light stone fruit and faint flowery/herbal notes. Hop flavors play well with the grainy mouthfeel. A dry finish brings you back for more sips. Jolly Pumpkin has been killing it with their new collaboration lineup. It’s also cool to see Holy Mountain as a collaborator, we’ve received one beer from them in the past year and this quells the lack of availability lately. This beer is drinking great right now, and will also cellar quite nicely over time. Available at all 3 Mike’s in 750 ml bottles!
